Inverness is a city in Northern Scotland, and is widely known as the capital of the Highlands of Scotland. The city borders the site of the eighteenth century Battle of Culloden, and the Great Glen, where the River Ness enters the Inverness/Moray Firth making it a natural hub for transport links. Inverness is the northern most city in the United Kingdom. Inverness has a population of aroung 54,000, and is Europe's fastest growing city.

Inverness is linked to the Black Isle across the Moray Firth by the Kessock Bridge. It has a railway sataion with services to and from Perth, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Thurso, Wick and Kyle of Lochalsh; with sleeper services to London on the Caledonian Sleeper which departs 6 times a week, and by the Highland Chieftain which departs 7 times a week. Inverness airport is around 9 miles to the East of the city, and has scheduled flights to airports across the UK and Ireland, including London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin and the islands to the North and West of Scotland. Three trunk roads (A9, A82 and A96) provide access to Inverness, from Aberdeen, Perth, Elgin, Thurso, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Inverness plays host to the Highland Games every year. In 2006, Inverness hosted Scotland's biggest ever Highland Games over two days in July! Inverness also plays host to two music festivals, Rockness and the Tartan Heart Festival, that bring a variety of different music to the town. The city is also home to two football clubs, Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC and Clachnacuddin FC.

Aside from its heritage and history as part of the Scottish Highlands, Inverness is a modern city, with facilities to match. Cinemas, Leisure complexes, Shopping, Restaurants and a thriving night life scene.

From Inverness, take the A9 north, over the Kessock Bridge with its beautiful views over the Moray Firth. Pass a sign for the Dolphin Centre and head for Black Isle. At the Tore roundabout, head for Fortrose and Cromarty. Pass through Munlochy, continue on to Fortrose. More Details
